A special place for special children. Sammy's House is a nonprofit organization that provides innovative services for children who are medically fragile and/or developmentally delayed. Our mission is to fill the gaps in services for these underserved children by creating programs that help children and families thrive through education, high quality early childhood programming, parent and community education on tolerance and recognizing the value and capabilities of all persons.
Sammy's House has a child development center, respire care program and a summer camp program. The child development center provides adaptive educational while incorporating therapeutic objectives and medical care. The respite care program provides care outside of normal childcare hours to give parents a break in care to prevent potential abuse and neglect. The summer camp program allows children with special needs to have the opportunity to enjoy a typical summer camp experience. In the summer camp program the children swim three times a week and go on fieldtrips the other two days a week. Additionally, Sammy's House helps families find the resources they need to care for their uniquely-abled child. Because of the high stress factors associated with a child with special needs, by the age of 3, most families will be led by a single parent. These parents become part of a care-giving family reducing isolation.
